If I had google glass, I woud use them in the Opera House
One year ago, I have written about my dream, as both a digital marketer and a opera nuts, to experience a live opera with some googleglass in the opera ! Have a look on my post about this.
I have dreamed of that and a new and a dynamic opera company based in New-York did it! Bravo, bravissimo, arcibravo to the exciting opera company On site Opera !
They have chosen for that experiment a masterpiece of the French Baroque composer Jean-Philippe Rameau ! By the way it’s not a coincidence. The topics is very interesting : it deals with a famous Ancient Greece sculptor who felt in love with one of his statues that was perfect (this myth of by Bernard Shaw in his masterpiece My Fair Lady, i remind :). On top of that, this opera composed in 1748 is not to long and by the way we’have been celebrating the 250th anniversary of the death of that great French composer.
So what will be the opera experience with this google glass ?
In 19 June 2014, the performance of this opera will be google-glassed. So what does it mean ? The new-york based company is tto perform a live performance in which subtitles will be projected to Google Glass owner (have a look to this article, if you’re feel not confortable with what subtitles is). For experiencing this, lucky owner of google glass will have to use a dedicated software. This soft has been developed specifically for that by Figaro Systems, which is not a newcomer in opera houses. This company have been already providing the software for the subtitles availabe on the seatbacks at the New-York based Metropolitan Opera. I haven’t experimenced what can it be in these Pygmalion performances but I have imagined what could it be as shown in the following example of a Carmen performance I in Salzburg festival 2 years agos.
We can rejoice that for several years, some opera companies, often small and innovative ones, have been exploring ways to enhance or renew user experience with immersive or in-store features and services. To address younger audience, it has become vital to leverage digital technologies to revamp the classic canons and way of enjoying classical music and specially live performances and to favor the idea that exciting performances can happen outside the walls of a traditional theater ! Stay tune to opera-digital.com to know more about these experiments !
